Abstract	This report looks at issues and solutions for data management in the context of high performance computing for scientific simulation and modelling. It considers data set formats, cluster and wide area distributed or hierarchical and high performance storage systems. It finally looks at novel ways to extract information from large data sets, particularly if this can be carried out ``in situ'' avoiding the need for lengthy file transfers.
