Title A Measurement of the Michel Parameters and the Nu(Tau) Helicity in Tau Lepton Decays using the DELPHI Detector at LEP
Contributors
Abstract This thesis describes a measurement of the Michel parameters, eta(l), rho(l), xi(l), xi(l)delta(l) and the average nu(tau) helicity, h(nu(tau)), in tau lepton decays using the DELPHI detector. The tau+tau- pairs were produced at the LEP e+e- collider at CERN during 1993 and 1994. The values of the five parameters were extracted (together with the tau polarisation, P(tau)) in a simultaneous fit to the two dimensional momentum spectra of leptonic and semi-leptonic tau decays. Assuming universality in the decays of the tau the measured values are: eta(l)=-0.01+/-0.10+/-0.04, rho(l)=0.794+/-0.036+/-0.029, xi(l)=0.988+/-0.070+/- 0.024, xi(l)delta(l)=0.682+/-0.063+/-0.054, h(nu(tau))=-1/006+/-0.034+/-0.013, P(tau)=-0.122+/-0.016+/-0.008. The result is consistent with the V-A structure of the weak charged current in decays of the tau lepton.
