Abstract
The Infrared Reflectance of vegetation has been studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in the mid and far infrared regions. The reflectance of the leaves of two common garden plants, Buxus Sempervirens (common box) and Armeria (thrift) were measured, both when healthy and when subjected to various stresses. These experiments show that there are characteristic changes which occur in the infrared reflectance spectra of leaves when they are under stress. In addition, we have observed some strong spectral features in the spectrum that are common to the different species of plant leaves that we tested and may be useful as a remote sensing tool.
