Title GROWL Scripts: Lightweight Access to Grid Resources
Abstract There are currently many people moving from running jobs on clusters to running jobs on the Grid using a Globus command line interface. They typically don't find this transition as simple as they should: they have problems building the software, have to learn about X509 certificate manipulation, and run into problems with firewalls. As well as providing a Web Service interface, GROWL addresses these problems by providing wrapper scripts for Globus and associated tools. While not being as generally applicable as the GROWL Web Services due to some minor firewall restrictions, GROWL Scripts are still being used in a variety of projects to ease the transition from cluster to Grid.
