Title Energy Vectors for Offshore Wind: A New UK Model for Future Energy Scenarios
Abstract Here a new versatile modelling tool for comparing renewable energy vectors that are compatible with offshore wind is presented. The tool is a first iteration and was developed in the Energy Research Unit and funded by the Environmental Sustainability Concept Fund. The tool includes geographical data for the UK and incorporates methods to simulate future energy demand and supply profiles. Together they deliver a tool that can be used to compare multi stage energy vector paths from a given offshore wind location to end use on the UK mainland. Furthermore, this process can be extended to output a collection of hypothetical wind farms and energy vector infrastructure that will meet a hypothetical energy demand. The results can be displayed well in plots and the hope is that the numerical results, methods and these plots will be valuable to researchers at STFC and beyond.
