Title
NERC and INSPIRE : interoperability and discovery in a European context
Contributors
A Woolf (STFC Rutherford Appleton Lab.)
Abstract
The European INSPIRE Directive (2007/2/EC) provides both a 'carrot' and 'stick' approach to interoperability for NERC. On the one hand, NERC will be required to implement common technical standards to enhance discovery of, and access to, its data for European purposes. On the other hand, this will bring benefits also to the core NERC community, as recognised through funding of NERC DataGrid, which has similar objectives. In this presentation, we review the INSPIRE Directive, its current status, and implications for interoperable metadata, data models, and network services within NERC.
