Title
Data Acquisition and Instrument Control for the SNS, Looking Forward
Contributors
S M Hartman (Spallation Neutron Source, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 ) (Pr.Au.)
Abstract
The instrument data systems for the Spallation Neutron Source beam lines are undergoing a number of upgrades. Development efforts will address obsolescence and maintainability, while also improving the performance of moving data from the acquisition system to the user for analysis. The goals of these upgrades include providing a streamlined user experience, developing a software system capable of meeting current and future user needs, and laying the foundation for better integration between data analysis and experiment control. Current development efforts include design and testing of low-level electronics, prototyping the use of the EPICS toolkit as a framework for instrument control and user interface, and improving the processing and management of data. This talk will give an overview of recent progress, current plans and ideas for the future. References ORNL/SNS is managed by UT-Battelle, LLC, under contract DE-AC05-00OR22725 for the U. S. Department of Energy.
