Title Magnetic field characterisation of laser-produced plasmas

Abstract We present laboratory measurements of magnetic field amplification in laser-produced plasmas to gain insight into the origins of magnetic fields in the universe. Using the Vulcan laser (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK), we have generated seed magnetic fields in laser-produced plasmas via the Biermann battery mechanism. Counter-streaming jets create turbulence and allow for the stochastic tangling of fields. Induction coils measured ~2-3 times larger magnetic fields in turbulent structures.
