Title UNIX file system backup at Daresbury Laboratory

Abstract This memorandum describes the procedures used at Daresbury Laboratory to backup a heterogeneous network of Unix based workstations and super computers. Detailed descriptions are given of the methods used to achieve automatic full and incremental backups of distributed file-systems onto tape using remote shells. Coverage is given to the set of support programs provided to interrogate backup cycles and ease the restoration of files, plus the integration of automated "Juke Box" devices into the backup mechanism.
