Title
Be prepared to be unpopular: tips for shutting services down
Contributors
CM Jones (STFC Rutherford Appleton Lab.)
Abstract
Shutting software based services down is unglamorous and less exciting than starting new services and there is less advice available. However it is important for reputations and collaborations going forward that it is planned and managed well. Thinking about how to shut services down can also help to inform how services are set up to avoid potential pitfalls in the future. I will share my experience of transferring and closing multiple services both big and small. Everyone will have experienced service shutdown from a user perspective, this talk will cover what it is like from a service provider’s perspective
